Where did summer go?

When we arrived back from Norfolk, we wondered where our next trip would be, but the summer appears to have been and gone. We were going to go to the British Birdwatching Fair at Rutland Water and camp nearby for a couple of nights, but it looks distinctly non-camping weather so we decided against that plan. I think we will stay local and visit somewhere nice to have a walk.

As I mentioned in the previous post, for Keith’s birthday we went to the new restaurant along the road from our office, Silversmiths. We thought we would give it a try following its Gordon Ramsey makeover. Previously, when it was known as the Runaway Girl, they served tapas, which were very good value and very tasty. If they had simply dispensed with the strange mix of music they featured it would have been fine, but the new incarnation is not to our liking, it has to be said. It has gone a bit ‘nouvelle cuisine’ and is not very good value (being of northern origin, this is important to us!). A small glass of wine was £6. The total bill (three courses and two drinks each) was just over £65.

Anyway, then came the surprise evening entertainment. Keith was trying to figure it out all week leading up to Saturday, but he never twigged until we were almost at the door. We had a great evening at the Last Laugh Comedy Club, featuring Toby Foster who is a presenter on Radio Sheffield. He is the compere, and there were three other comedians performing. The first two on Saturday were great, but the final one was a bit daft – all facial expressions and slapstick humour. Still, it wasn’t a bad night for £15. We discovered that we could have eaten there – nothing fancy, but nothing costing over a fiver!!

The exercises seem to be helping my back problem, and I don’t have to go back to see the physio for three weeks. The bad news is that I had a blood test at the doctor’s last week and the result is that I have a slightly raised cholesterol, so it’s back to the low fat diet!! Keith also found out recently that his is raised, so we’re both having to watch our diets. I had a similar result a couple of years ago and lowered the count quite well without medication, so I’m hoping I can do the same this time. We are definitely going to start our exercise regime, too, as we’ve been promising to do for some time. I think we will be swimming this weekend. And our bikes are now booked in for a service, so we will be raring to go fairly soon.

  1. £65 for two? with drinks. says nowt.

Been a nice day here but the terns are disappearing. Autumn on its way.
